Apac Commissions Beneficiary Groups Under Special Grants in the District
Apac, Uganda— The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development, in partnership with the Apac District Local Government, has today commissioned a new cohort of beneficiary groups under the Special Enterprise Grant for Older Persons (SEGOP) and the National Special Grant for Persons with Disabilities (NSG-PWDs).
The event, held at [Insert Venue], marked a significant milestone in the government's ongoing efforts to promote inclusive economic empowerment among vulnerable populations, specifically older persons and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
A total of 3 groups of older persons and 6 groups of persons with disabilities have been successfully verified and funded in this cycle with a total of UGX 40,000,000/=. These groups received startup capital to engage in sustainable livelihood activities, such as agriculture, trade, and small-scale manufacturing.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Ms. Lydia Awor, the Senior Community Development Officer, noted:
“This initiative is part of the government's broader social protection strategy aimed at improving the quality of life for vulnerable groups. By supporting enterprise development, we are enabling older persons and PWDs to become self-reliant and active contributors to the local economy.”
The beneficiaries from the two grants expressed gratitude while saying:
“This support is not just financial assistance—it is recognition of our abilities and a chance to restore our dignity through productive work.”
The Special Enterprise Grant for Older Persons (SEGOP) and the National Special Grant for Persons with Disabilities (NSG-PWDs) are flagship programs under Uganda’s Expanding Social Protection (ESP) framework. They are designed to provide targeted financial support to organized and eligible groups to start or expand income-generating activities.
The Apac District leadership reaffirmed its commitment to transparent fund management and continued mentorship to ensure long-term sustainability of the funded projects.
